Αrea

The area of Velvento is a hilly and mountainous, viticulturist area at 400m altitude, between the western mountains of Pieria Pieria and the artificial Lake Polyfytos, just 33 km southwest of Kozani. Kozani is the capital and largest city of West Macedonia region and the homonymous regional unity. It is built among the mountain ranges of Vermio, Bourinos and Pieria.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Velvento is unique in configuration and orientation and extremely attractive as it is one of the most gifted vineyards in Greece. The microclimate of our vineyard (terroir) is notable as the northern and north-western exposure of Pieria is ideal, in order for our vines to avoid excessive exposure to the sun during the summer months, while enjoying the cool breeze of Polyfytos lake. The exceptional climatic conditions, fertile and diverse soils formed from old geological sediments and good drainage of the soils, contribute to the production of high quality PGI Velvento wines.

The Winery

The visitors are welcome to come and visit our stone winery located in the vineyard in a prominent position. After major renovation of buildings and the acquisition of the necessary mechanical features, it is equipped with stainless steel refrigerated tanks in order to control fermentation and create qualitative wines. Our premises of red wines cellar aging complete the picture of a modern winemaking facility.

Our philosophy

Our concern is the harmonious relationship between technology and tradition. Starting from the vine, plowing, pruning, harvesting and targeting low yield per hectare as to improve the quality and reach the vinification and bottling of our wines with passion, knowledge and love for what we do, we build consistently on modern technology.

Quality

Our wines are vinified exclusively with skin contact of the first juice. Vinification takes place according to the latest health and safety standards, in order to emphasize on the aromatic components of the grapes which are the result of both the charismatic climate and the blessed soil of our region.
